Jasper Product IQ vs. Jasper IQ vs. Knowledge Base
On this page
Quick answer
Jasper IQ is the broader governed marketing context layer. Knowledge Base supplies approved company and product information from documents and connected sources. Product IQ adds product-specific schemas and governance for fields such as specifications, prices, approved claims, and required disclaimers.
They are complementary, not interchangeable. A Knowledge Base document can explain a product, while a Product IQ record can model the exact fields and constraints that generation should apply. Jasper IQ is the umbrella that also includes brand voice, style, audience, and other marketing context.
Decision table
| Layer | Primary role | Typical content | Main owner question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jasper IQ | Governed marketing context and rules used by agents and workflows | Brand voice, style, audience, company knowledge, product context | Who owns each context domain and runtime rule? |
| Knowledge Base | Searchable approved knowledge | Documents, product information, messaging, guides, structured and unstructured sources | Which source is authoritative, synced, approved, and current? |
| Product IQ | Structured product truth applied during generation | Specs, pricing, value propositions, differentiators, claims, taglines, disclaimers | Which schema, product version, locale, evidence, and approval apply? |

When Knowledge Base is enough
Knowledge Base may be the right starting point when users need grounded retrieval from approved documents and connected sources, and the facts do not require a strict product schema or rule-bound claim/disclaimer treatment.
It still needs source owners, sync monitoring, access controls, freshness tests, conflicting-source handling, citations, and removal procedures. A document appearing in search does not prove it is authoritative or current.
When Product IQ adds value
Product IQ is more relevant when a catalog has repeatable fields and high-cost errors. Examples include model numbers, compatibility, regional prices, approved comparison claims, nutrition facts, regulated indications, safety language, or required disclaimers.
Structure helps an agent distinguish one product, locale, version, and effective period from another. It does not remove the need to validate the field values and policy rules.
Use the Product IQ schema guide to define those controls.
How Jasper IQ connects the layers
Jasper describes Jasper IQ as the context layer for brand rules, company knowledge, audiences, and product truth. In practice, a product asset can require several contexts at once:
- Product IQ for the correct product record and approved claims.
- Knowledge Base for supporting documentation and broader company facts.
- Brand Voice and Style Guide for expression.
- Audience context for framing and terminology.
- Workflow or channel requirements for format and delivery.
Define precedence. If a Knowledge Base document contains an old price while Product IQ contains a newer effective price, the workflow needs an explicit conflict policy rather than asking the model to guess.
Ownership model
| Context | Suggested accountable owner | Review evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Product identity and specs | Product operations / product owner | Reconciliation with system of record |
| Price and promotion | Commerce / finance | Market, currency, dates, approval, and live check |
| Claims | Product marketing plus legal/regulatory | Evidence, wording, scope, jurisdiction, and expiry |
| Disclaimers | Legal/regulatory | Required text, placement rule, channel, locale, and effective period |
| Brand voice and style | Brand | Approved examples and exception rules |
| Knowledge sources | Content operations and domain owners | Source authority, sync status, access, and freshness |
“Admin-owned” is not specific enough for a high-risk field. Name the business owner who can approve, correct, expire, and revoke each context type.
Test the combined context
Create representative prompts that require multiple layers. For each output, record which product, locale, version, Knowledge Base sources, claim, disclaimer, audience, and style rules were expected and what actually appeared.
Test conflicts, missing fields, expired claims, revoked documents, similar SKUs, wrong locales, stale prices, and a user without access. Review whether the system omits the output, asks for clarification, or generates plausible but unsupported copy.
Run the Product IQ readiness check before using the combined context for production assets.
Frequently asked questions
Is Product IQ a replacement for Knowledge Base?
No. Jasper presents Product IQ as product-specific context and Knowledge Base as a broader approved knowledge source. Many workflows may use both.
Is Product IQ the same as Jasper IQ?
No. Product IQ is a product-focused part of Jasper’s broader IQ context and governance surface.
Which layer should contain pricing?
Use the source-of-truth system as the authority, then model the approved market, currency, amount, effective dates, and conditions in the context layer your workflow supports. Test conflicts and recheck live price before publication.
Does centralized knowledge eliminate hallucinations?
No. Better context can reduce unsupported generation, but retrieval, model behavior, conflicts, omissions, stale data, and downstream edits still require testing and review.
