How to Get Your Ideal Outputs with Better Prompts

Generative AI is an incredibly versatile engine capable of building websites, designing presentations, writing detailed articles, and retrieving specific news. Because it has the power to take your project in countless directions, the key to unlocking your perfect result is simply showing it exactly what to aim for.

By sharing a few specific details about your goals, you can shape the final product to fit your vision. Here are the most effective ways to guide the AI and achieve a more precise outcome across different types of tasks.

1. Generating Websites: Focus on the Outcome

When building web interfaces, the most effective way to guide the AI is to describe your final vision, including specific visual details, layouts, and features.

Example: Building a Web Page

  • Basic Request: “Make a coffee shop website.”
  • Detailed Request: “Create a modern website for a coffee shop. It needs a dark mode theme, a responsive layout for mobile phones, and a section that tracks inventory.”

Providing specific instructions for styling and functionality helps the AI deliver a complete, customized interface on the first try without having to guess your preferences.

2. Generating Articles: Define Structure and Formatting

For long-form text, an effective prompt must eliminate ambiguity by providing specific instructions for format, length, and content. The AI understands definitions (like “essay” or “bulleted list”) and will structure its response accordingly if told to do so.

Example: Writing an Essay

  • Basic Request: “Write about the environment.”
  • Detailed Request: “Write a highly detailed essay, including introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs, answering the following questions: What are the most pressing environmental issues, and what measures can individuals take to address them?”

Clearly defining your requirements ensures the model’s output meets your structural needs rather than returning a brief, one-sentence answer.

3. Generating Slides: Specify Theme and Content Layout

Since the system generates your slides based on a single request, the most effective approach is to clearly define both the visual style and the information structure upfront.

Example: Designing a Presentation

  • Basic Request: “Make slides about renewable energy.”
  • Detailed Request: “Create a 5-slide presentation about the future of renewable energy. Use a clean, minimalist corporate theme with a white and blue color palette. Format each slide to include a bold header, a short introductory sentence, and 3 succinct bullet points.”

Providing the visual theme alongside the structural layout ensures the AI delivers polished, cohesive slides that match your desired aesthetic immediately.

4. News Search: Provide Sufficient Context

When asking the AI to retrieve information or search the news, the model relies entirely on the contextual boundaries you set. If the context is too broad, it will struggle to find the specific information you actually care about.

Example: Searching for Information

  • Basic Request: “Find tech news.”
  • Detailed Request: “Search the news from the last 7 days for hardware releases. Specifically, find articles talking about new processors or GPUs and summarize the top 3 results.”

The more context and constraints you provide (timeframes, specific topics, desired output format), the more accurate and useful the retrieved information will be.

5. Additional Tips

Use UI Images as Visual Guides If you are unsure how to describe a specific layout or design using text, generate a quick UI mockup image first. You can then use this image as a visual reference to help explain your structural ideas and color preferences more clearly when writing your final request.

Meta Prompting (Prompting the AI to write your prompt) If you are struggling to structure a detailed request, you can ask the AI to write it for you. Simply explain your rough idea to the model and ask it to rewrite your thoughts into a highly detailed, structured prompt. You can then use that optimized prompt to generate your final outcome.
